WHEN I CREATE DESIGNS

Over 40 years of work created canvas in Oil and Acrylic was done in realistic style.

When I want to let go, I create designs of all sorts.

Returning to watercolour, I have once more to adapt to the fluidity of the medium and the strange behaviour of the paint while mixing on the paper.

However I enjoy so much producing these phantasmagoric skies!

IS GOUACHE WATERCOLOUR?

 Yes it is but with a huge difference!

It is created with the same pigments + Water with added Gum Arabique which is a binding agent.

Consequently the paint is opaque and does not perform like a  Watercolour.

When working in Watercolour you can add Gum Arabic as a medium that will extend the drying time and gives you time to manipulate the work for a longer time and some watercolours contains a small amount of Gum Arabic. It can be lift up as it doesn’t dry permanently 

Coming back to gouache, you can find many different kinds.. from the children paint to more professional quality paints.

Some are for designers. I found them very vibrant slightly garish for my style of painting.

You have to be aware when applying the paint, the layers must be minimal as too much can end up powdery and build up on the surface.

In my case, I like to apply the paint well diluted and thinly.

Dark colours dry lighter and light colours dry darker.

Personally if I want to paint with gouache, I build up a painting in Watercolour and come back with gouache.

However, some paintings created uniquely in gouache, if well executed can be very attractive.

Many artists have used gouache with Pastel, Pencils……

I used the same scenery for a Winter scenery.

HYTHE IN WATERCOLOUR

My passion for watercolour started for my little home town, Hythe in Kent.

There are some corners that are screaming to be painted.

It was not long before I did so. I sold quite a few of them.

Canterbury is a major city with its beautiful cathedral.

Not far away from where I live, I love going there to enjoy

the old streets and of course the cathedral.

These watercolours are very popular. I have sold quite a few prints of them.

Two original have been sold.

How would be a life without flowers?

From the humble daisy to the voluptuous rose, they are here to tempt us.

Which artist has not been tantalised by their beauty?

It was not long after my first steps in Art, I wanted to capture roses!

I did not start with the easiest of all!!!

I learnt a few months before being able to incorporate them in my still lives.

"A touch of Summer" 

This painting was in fact a turning point!

I really battled with the hydrangea but achieved what I wanted to do.

"Red roses Jazz"

I really enjoyed painting this one.

Red roses are not that easy to paint. We need to accentuate the colours for the shading when in fact we still have to make sure we keep the softness.

Oh! I have sold a few prints and cards of this one!!!

I think people feel what I was trying to convey.

The little special time when sunshine is peeping through the blinds in the kitchen and send 

a gorgeous light on the fruits.

I quickly added the flowers from my garden.
